Melba Dolores Miller passed away on July 17, 2014 in Baytown, Texas as a lengthy illness related to smoking. Dolores was the only daughter of Michael Peerce and Bernice Mantooth, born July 14, 1930 in Houston. Her father died when she was 5 months old in the depths of the great of the great depression. Mostly raised by her grandmother Alberta Franklin Mantooth, Dolores graduated from Milby High School. She retired from the US Postal Service as a postmaster in 1999 to care for her terminally ill husband Hugh Warren Miller Jr. With a life full of hardship, Dolores was always there for her five children, Michael Miller of Pasadena, Linda Walters and husband Phillip of Mancos, Colorado, Ruth Miller and Husband John Lutheran of Eugene, Oregon, Patrick Miller of Crosby, and Susan Jackson and husband Alan of Houston; grandchildren, Alyssa Green, Karen Green, Matthew Miller, Scott M. M. Jackson, Christian Jackson and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 10:30am at Christ Church Cathedral 1117 Texas Ave. Houston, Texas. Donations can be made in Dolores’s memory to the American Lung Association and we ask that if you smoke, you quit now. Special thanks to her son Patrick Miller who has been her constant companion for the last 15 years and her full time care giver for the last two.
