Alford Ireland McGhee Alford Ireland McGhee, 84, of Highlands, Texas beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018. He was born October 1, 1933 to Ireland and Thular McGhee in Rochester, Texas. Alford known to family and friends as “PawPaw”, was a caring, compassionate man and a friend to everyone. He was hard working all of his life and loved helping others. Pawpaw was the type person that you never had to ask him for his help; he just got things done. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, watching the Astros and especially trips to the casino. He loved being a father and grandfather, and he especially loved spending time with his grandkids. Alford retired from Brown & Root after 26 years and was known to his co-workers as “Maggie”. He was a hard working man that continued doing odd jobs after his retirement just to stay busy. Every morning he would get up at 4am, up until he was hospitalized this month, to go to the Exxon Station and make coffee for the customers. He loved life and loved being around people. Alford is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janie, son Wayne; brothers, Leroy, Dean, and Billy, and sisters, Doris and Letha. He is survived by his daughter, Denise Smith and husband, Jerry; son Gary McGhee. Grandchildren; Wayne McGhee, Jr., and Tracy Delgado and husband Elmi; great grandchildren; Brittany and Husband Ryan, Rebecca, Brooke and Breana and great-great granddaughter, Addisyn. Sister Mary Marshall and Tommy of Rochester Texas and many nieces, nephews and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Sterling-White Funeral Home 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd.
