Billy Gene Roberts

A life well lived

On October 21, 1929, in Mineola, Texas, God blessed Mary Jane Walton Sampson and Cliffton Roberts with the birth of their son, Billy Gene Roberts. Billy attended McFarland High School where he went on to attend Prairie View A&M University. Billy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor in Kinesiology. In 1960, Billy G. Roberts met the love of his life Ira Donna Alexander, who he later married. To this union was born one child, Bilii Cheryse Ayn Roberts-Mustafaa. Billy spent a wonderful and blessed 59 ½ years of marriage.

Billy G. Roberts served as an Administrative Specialist in the United States Navy. He spent 26 years as a History teacher with the Crosby Independent School District where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Billy G”.  He had a big heart and truly enjoyed teaching and sharing his great wealth of knowledge with his students. He was famous for recognizing and rewarding his students with a “Trophy” when they had succeeded and achieved a certain goal.

Mr, Roberts was a beloved member and President of the El Dorado Social Club. He was also a faithful parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents Howard Sampson, Clifton Roberts and Mary Sampson.

Billy leaves to mourn his wife of 59 ½ years, Ira Donna Roberts; daughter, Bilii Roberts-Mustafaa and husband Abdul-Malik Mustafaa; grandson, Malik James Mustafaa; brother, Osborn Sampson (Narita Sampson) and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family from 10:00am until 11:00am on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, 12606 Crosby Lynchburg Rd, Crosby, Texas. Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am also at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Crosby. Interment will take place in Sterling White Cemetery.
