Colleen Mary Goodney

Colleen Mary Simmet Goodney, 70, of Highlands, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021, in Baytown, Texas. She was born on June 13, 1950, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, to the late Richard Simmet and Corrine Smith Simmet. Colleen graduated from Eden Prairie High School in 1968. She was a member of St Jude Thaddaeus Catholic Church in Highlands. In 1973, she married the love of her life John Goodney in Hawaii while he was stationed in the military there. Nine short months later, they had their beautiful daughter who was Colleen’s pride and joy.  

Colleen was a feisty person who pursued many interests, some of which were collecting coins, stamps, and lighthouses, going to the gun range with her family and crocheting. In fact, she had a queen-sized afghan on every bed in the house. She was a good-natured generous woman who was a good wife and a wonderful mother to her daughter Cathy. While Cathy was growing up, she would joke with her saying they found Cathy under a rock in Hawaii.

Colleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Mark Simmet. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory her beloved husband of 47 years John of Highlands, Texas; her daughter Cathy Collins and husband Randy of Houston, Texas; her grandson James Collins and wife Tara of Houston, Texas; her great-granddaughter Lorna Collins of Houston, Texas; her sisters Sharon Holley and husband Cliff of Wyoming, Valerie Burke and husband Larry of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Eileen Simmet of Minneapolis, Minnesota and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 5 pm until 7 pm, in the chapel of Sterling ~ White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Rd, Highlands, Texas 77562. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 10 am, in Sterling ~ White Cemetery.
