Edward Parten

November 16, 1942 ~ April 1, 2018 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Tribute

“Big Ed” Parten was born at home on Sand Mountain in Alabama on November 16, 1942. He died peacefully at home in Kingwood on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018.

Edward Parten was preceded in death by his dad, W.I. Parten and mother, Hazel Parten.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Parten, his two daughters, Sheila Kleinhenz, husband Keith, Rhonda Provazek, husband, Andrew, nine wonderful grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, brother Jerrel Parten, wife LaNell, sister Dessie, husband Jerry Clark, sister Flora, husband Jerry Cater and a host of nieces and nephews. Family was very important to him. He gave his family love and respect. Mother, Dad, sisters and brother were cherished and appreciated.

He spent countless hours on various boards and worked tirelessly on environmental and water quality issues. The title or position in an organization didn’t matter to him. He freely gave of his time, energy and resources to make a difference whether he was the President or just one of the members. Edward served many years on the Texas Parks & Wildlife Fresh Water Advisory Board. Charter member of and served several years as President of Texas Black Bass Unlimited, current President of the Texas Association of Bass Clubs served as Vice-President of Texas Association of Bass Clubs, Board Member of Texas State Bass Tournament Association and others.

He was the recipient of the Freshwater Fisheries Hall of Fame in 2013, where his picture is displayed on the wall of honor at the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department Fish Hatchery in Athens. He was also a recipient of the Hall of Fame from the Texas State Bass Tournament. Ed was a co-founder of SMART, served on the advisory board of Texas Outdoor Partners, was a life member of National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Humble First Assembly of God Church, 1915 FM 1960 Bypass, Humble, TX 77338. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the church. Interment will follow at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Sterling-White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd., Highlands, Texas 77562.
