Tribute

Gene “BDG” Edward Glenn, 85, of Crosby, Texas, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 29th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 12th, 1938 in Call, Texas, Gene was the beloved son of Steven and Lillian Glenn.

Upon graduating High School, Gene enlisted into the United States Army. He proudly served 21 years with honor, embodying the principles of duty and loyalty throughout his military career. Shortly after his military retirement he went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Correctional Officer and worked his way up to a Lieutenant at the Wind Unit in Huntsville, Texas. During that time, Gene met the love of his life, Claudia Yarbrough and they married on May 4th, 1996 in Huntsville, Texas. Gene and Claudia were blessed with two incredible and strong willed Sons, Ben and Jonathan. After 20 years of working for the Texas Department of Corrections, Gene relocated their beautiful family to Collins, Georgia and began working for the Georgia Department of Corrections as an Office at the Men’s Detention Center in Claxton, Georgia. Gene retired after 15 years with the Georgia Department of Corrections and moved back to the great state of Texas to enjoy retirement to the fullest with his wife, Claudia.

Gene enjoyed his days of retirement, fishing on Lake Livingston, hunting, keeping up with his Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros, spoiling not only his wife Claudia but also their puppy, Sissy, relaxing in his recliner while snacking on sweets and watching the squirrels and hummingbirds, spending quality time with his Sons, making new memories with family and friends.

Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He never met a stranger and would carry on a conversation for hours whether it was with a neighbor, the waitress at the restaurant, a fellow fisherman on the dock, or the cashier checking him out while buying his lotto tickets, Gene truly enjoyed getting to know every person that he met. He made everyone smile and laughed until they cried. His laugh was so contagious, that you couldn’t help but laugh with him and you always walked away with a smile on your face and still giggling from his jokes. He lived a life marked by a pillar of strength, integrity, compassion, service to his country, and an endless love for his family.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Steven and Lillian Glenn. His loyal fur companion of 10 years, Toby Glenn.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years, Claudia Glenn. His spoiled miniature toy poodle, Sissy Glenn. His two amazing Sons, Ben Morris (Alma) of Corpus Christi, Texas. Jonathan Morris (LeeAnne) of Baytown, Texas. His one and only, brand new Grandson, Noah Gene Morris (Son of Ben and Alma). His Brother in Law, Talmadge Yarbrough, Sister in Law, Barbara Robertson (Billy), Brother in Law, Carl Yarbrough (Connie). His Nieces and Nephews.

As we say goodbye, let us remember him, not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the love that he shared. Gene’s warm smile, infectious laughter and love of life will forever remain in our hearts.

In Matthew 5:4, Jesus says, “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.”
