Gene “Catfish King” Henderson, 79, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021, at his residence. He was born on February 3, 1941, in Corsicana, Texas, to the late Irene Wooten Henderson and Willard Henderson Sr.  Gene graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1959, afterwards going on to College. He was a member of Calvary Temple Church for over 40 years where he served as an ordained minister.  He retired from. Hoechst Celanese Chemical Plant, where he was a pipefitter for 30+ years. For many years, he was a member of the group; Fishing but God First.

Gene was a person who pursued many interests, some of which were his love for ministering to others and teaching them the word of God. He was an avid fisherman and loved to tell long stories of his catches. Gene enjoyed hosting fish fry gatherings where he would fry the fish he caught.  Gene was a hard worker, Always, well dressed, very social person who never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris Henderson, his infant son Tommy Gene Henderson and his brother Willard Henderson Jr. He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his daughters Shari Odom of Ector,  Pansy Palomino of Spring, his only grandson,  Dexter Gene Gutierrez and Fiancé Jessika Lamb of Baytown,   Granddaughters; Stefani Palomino of Pearland,  Sonia Palomino of Spring, Mindi Shelby and husband Jay of Baytown,  Carmen Cudd and husband Billy of Ector,  his great-grandchildren Anthony Lopez of Pearland, Madison Bracey and Finance Christopher Brownlee of Crosby, Makenzi Wentworth of Baytown, Brody Cudd of Ector, Texas; his siblings Willie Henderson and wife Judy Halfin of Georgia, Irene Yarborough and husband Curtis of Henderson, his nephews Willie “Bubba” Henderson, Danny Henderson, Shannon Yarborough, Gary Henderson, Allen Anderson and nieces Angela Anderson, Stacie Hatcher, Donna Potosky, and Angel Henderson.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be  Todd Gentz, Trey Hatcher, Dexter Gutierrez, Allen Anderson, Evan Anderson and Jeff Mann. Honorary pallbearers are Buck Stanton and Willie Henderson.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 pm until 8 pm on Monday January 11, 2021, in the chapel of Sterling ~ White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Rd, Highlands, Texas 77562. A funeral for Mr. Henderson will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in the chapel at 10 am. A graveside service will follow in Sterling ~ White Cemetery.
