She was born on October 31, 1930 in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana to Hunter Cox and Teula Stockton Cox.  Hazel was an active member of Second Baptist Church in Highlands, Texas.  She was a member of Happy Harmonies, a group that frequently went to nursing homes to dance and sing for the residents. She also enjoyed using those dance moves during her Line Dancing down at the Community Center. She was a member of the High Flyers, a group who helped the food bank and other community needs. She was a member of the Red Hatters, which she enjoyed hanging out with all the ladies involved. She helped to organize a social group at church called N. G. She enjoyed the Community Center fellowship as well while she got to play cards with her friends and often enjoyed their field trips. In her younger years she was a trail rider with her family and often rode in the parade for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. She was also very gifted at making family quilts and crocheted items.
