Tribute

James Charles Sims, a loving and devoted husband and father, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, May 26, 2023, at the age of 68 in Humble, Texas.

James was born on August 24, 1954 in Baytown, Texas to James Orvil and Gwendolyn Ann Sims. Growing up, he was the eldest of eight children, with six brothers and one sister. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and then Lee College in Baytown.  His favorite thing to do while growing up in Baytown was visit his family’s bait camp where he would fish and shrimp.

Throughout most of his adult life, James  resided in Crosby, Texas with his loving wife, Debra. There, they created a home for their children, Chris and Amanda. As a father, James strived to provide for his family and be a positive role model. He supported his children in their endeavors, always cheering them on and encouraging them to pursue their dreams.

One of James's greatest joys was spending time with his family, fishing and hanging out at the family’s bay house. These shared moments created cherished memories that will forever be treasured. Additionally, James displayed his commitment to family by coaching Chris and Amanda’s little league baseball and softball teams.

He was also a committed Pappa to his three grandchildren. He would do anything for his family. For instance, one Halloween, upon hearing that Chris was having trouble finding a Baby Shark costume for his son, Ethan, James relentlessly looked, store after store, day after day, for the costume until he finally found it and saved the day.

For work, James dedicated his career to Arkema in Crosby, Texas, where he earned the nickname "Hammer" due to his unwavering work ethic and his ability to get the job done. His commitment and reliability made him an invaluable member of the team for 39 years, and his impact was felt by colleagues and friends alike.

Upon retiring from his role at the chemical plant, James transitioned to driving a bus for Crosby ISD, serving the community for five years. Eventually, he and Debra made the decision to sell their home and relocate to Humble, Texas, in order to be closer to their children and grandchildren, further exemplifying his unwavering dedication to family.

James Charles Sims will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and a hardworking individual who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, resilience, and integrity. Although he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

James is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debra, son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Linzi Sims, their children Emily and Ethan,  his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Daniel Barnett,  their daughter, Reese, and his brothers, Ronald and Brian Sims. He is  preceded in death by his parents, James and Gwendolyn Sims, sister, Rhonda Dean, and brothers, Paul, Tommy, Bobby Joe, and David Sims.
