JoEllen Frances Mercer

JoEllen Frances Sciacca Mercer, 62, of Highlands, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. JoEllen was born in Baytown, Texas to her parents Joseph Sciacca and Theodora Cormier Sciacca on August 13, 1959. JoEllen was known to be one of the strongest people you could meet. She was a care giver at heart – she made certain everyone that crossed her path knew they could count on her. JoEllen devoted her time and energy to her daughter’s sports interests and was actively involved with the Highlands Sports Association Board in the 1990s. She also enjoyed cook-off competitions with her husband and friends at the Baytown Boat Club. Her passion for sports was later fulfilled by watching her grandson play baseball, hockey, and basketball. JoEllen’s beloved pastime was spending countless hours on the water with her family fishing and enjoying water sports. JoEllen’s courage, strong will, and care will be missed by all that knew her.   

She is preceded in death by her husband, Byron A. Mercer; parents, Joseph and Theodora Sciacca; brother, James Sciacca; and in-laws, Samuel (Allen) and Dorothy Mercer

JoEllen is survived by her daughters, Kelsie Stephenson and husband Matt, and Andrea Mercer; grandson, Camden Stephenson; brother, Jack Sciacca and wife Mary Lou Garcia-Sciacca; nephew, Jimmy Sciacca and wife Brittany; great-nephews, Jude and Dominic Sciacca; and a host of extended family and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Sterling White Funeral Home, with services to immediately follow at 7pm.
