John Paul Goodney, 70, of Highlands, Texas, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022. He was born January 14, 1951 in Baytown, Texas to parents John Leo Goodney and Leona Adaline Grahmann. John is preceded in death by his father John L. Goodney; mother Leona Adaline Harvey; step-father Virgil “Gene” Harvey; his beloved wife of nearly 48 years Colleen Mary Goodney; and sisters Theresa Baggett and Elizabeth Robbins.  

After High School John went on to serve his country for four years in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he met his wife Colleen. In his younger years, John was proud to follow in his father’s footsteps and serve as a volunteer firefighter. Mr. Goodney was always very involved in his community. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Crosby, St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church of Highlands, and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. John was an avid shooter and gun collector; he often enjoyed taking his wife and daughter target and silhouette shooting. Some of John’s passions in life included hunting, drag racing, and building and flying remote control airplanes. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his daughter Cathy Collins and husband Randy; grandson James Collins and wife Tara; great-granddaughter Lorna Collins; siblings Mary Furgeson and husband Robert, Margaret Modisette and husband Duane, David Goodney and wife Nadine, Virgil “Buddy” Harvey Jr. and wife Phyllis, Cheryl Wilson, Rusty Harvey and wife Susan, Keith Harvey and wife Loretta, and Bobby Harvey and wife Cindy; uncle Frank Grahmann along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  

A visitation for John will be held 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Sterling-White Funeral Home, Highlands, Texas with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Crosby, Texas. Following the service, John will be laid to rest beside his wife Colleen at Sterling-White Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be George Nino, Joe Seay, Gary Hudson, Clint Buss, Robert Herman, and Donny Herman. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Modisette, Mark Modisette, Shane Buss, Gregory Dawson, and James Baggett.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Knights of Columbus or a suicide prevention organization of your choice.
