John Douglas Lindsey - dedicated husband, father, and friend of many – passed away on November 23, 2022 at the age of 69 in Wilmington, North Carolina.
John was born to John “Jack” and Angeline Lindsey and raised with his brother, Lonnie, in Crosby. After graduating from Crosby High School, John studied at Texas A&M University and married his wife, Becky, before starting his career with Chevron. John’s coworkers dubbed him “Cowboy”, and he spent the following 35 years developing his career and working with many who became lifelong friends. After retiring, John enjoyed spending more time doing what he truly loved, volunteering in his community. He served many years as member and president of the Crosby School Board, volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul and Eastside Veterans, and served in the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight. Additionally, he never missed an opportunity to volunteer at the Czech Fest and Crosby Livestock Show & Rodeo.
Through the years, John enjoyed hunting with his friends, fishing with his son-in-law and granddaughters, and cooking for his family. His steak, ribs, fried turkey and peach cobbler were memorable for all, but the most unforgettable was a dinner of homemade onion rings and watermelon eyeballs. Although quiet, John was a stranger to no one, and loved his hometown.
John was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Angie. He is survived by his wife, Becky; their children, Maegan and spouse Steve Berch; Lauren and spouse Jackie Lindsey; his granddaughters, Addison and Kensington; his brother, Lonnie and spouse Sandy Lindsey; his mother-in-law, Sue Matthews; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Visitation will be held at Sterling White Funeral Home in Highlands, Texas, on Friday, December 2 from 5:00-7:00pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00pm. The funeral will be Saturday, December 3 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crosby, followed by burial at Sterling White Cemetery and a late luncheon in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests spending some quality time in the great outdoors with your loved ones in his memory.
His worldly body may have failed, but his spirit was stubbornly strong:
When peace, like a river attendeth my way
When sorrow like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
