Lawrence (Larry) Owen Gosney went home to be with our LORD on Saturday, June 26, 2018. He was 97 years old, born on December 18, 1920 in Maywood, Missouri to John W. and Anna M. Gosney.
Lawrence retired from the Navy as an ATC E-7 (Chief Aviation Electronics Technician) after serving his nation honorably for 30 years spanning WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Among his many medals, citations, commendations and awards are: AIR MEDAL, EIGHTH GOOD CONDUCT AWARD for period ending 22 APR 66, AMERICAN DEFENSE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL , ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL (w/one star), VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL (w/4 stars), REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM CAMPAIGN MEDAL with device (1960-).
After retirement from the Navy, Lawrence owned and operated a dry cleaner and Laundromat for 10 years. He married Norma Irene Pevehouse, sold the businesses and traveled. They spent much time between Missouri and the states their children resided in. After his wife passed away, Lawrence, his daughter and her husband traveled extensively touring the United States.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brother, William Leigh Gosney. He is survived by his loving daughters, Lynda Parker of Crosby, TX, and Cynthia Spangler of Maryville, TN; brothers Paul Gosney of Quincy, Ill, Gerald Gosney of Maywood, MO, Oren Gosney of Durham, MO and Ray Gosney of Maywood, MO; numerous nieces and nephews, 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 5-8pm at Sterling-White Funeral Home in Highlands. Services will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 11:00am at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, Missouri.
