Leon Wayland “Granddaddy” Haynes, 91, of Baytown, Texas, slipped away into the arms of his savior, with his loving family by his side, on Sunday, November 8, 2020. He was born on September 4, 1929, to the late Leon Webb Haynes and Ollie Rayburn Haynes, in Saline, Louisiana. Leon graduated from Saline High School, where shortly afterward he was drafted into the Army to proudly serve his country. In 1954, he married the love of his life Mildred Alexander, where they made their life together raising their precious family.

Leon was a man who pursued many interests, some of which were collecting coins, gardening, riding his golf cart and lawn mower, sitting on the back porch, picking up pecans and just being outdoors in general. He was a kind and loving man with a gentle soul. Leon was a humble person who instilled values into his children. He was full of determination and was a fighter who would overcome any odds that were against him.

Leon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Bernice Haynes Mathews. He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his beloved wife of 65 years Mildred Alexander Haynes; his children Judy Kimbrough and husband Steven of Deer Park, Kevin Haynes and wife Marissa of Baytown; his sister Martha Nell Anderson and husband Prentis of Quitman, Louisiana; his grandchildren Jeremy Gonzalez and wife Britney of Baytown, Jessica Haynes and husband Charles of La Porte, Texas, Tabitha Walmsley and husband Chris of Spring, Texas, Alicia Rihm and husband Andy of Missouri City, Texas, Justin Barker of Baytown; his son in law Joshua Gonzalez, his extended grandson Reagan Mann, numerus nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.  

Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 5pm until 8pm in the chapel of Sterling ~ White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Rd, Highlands, Texas 77562. A funeral service for Mr. Haynes will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 beginning at 2 pm in the chapel, with a graveside service and committal immediately following in Sterling ~ White Cemetery.
