Lois Marlene McAlister

November 25, 1931 ~ September 1, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Lois Marleen Reed McAlister of Highlands, Texas, was called home on Friday, September 1, 2017.  Mama Mac to those who loved her was born on November 25, 1931, in Pineville, Louisiana to Etha George and Sinclair T Reed.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Billie Gene McAlister, her only child Patrick Wayne McAlister Sr., her sisters Mollie Mae Reed Messick and Eris Reed Newman, her brother Sinclair T. Reed Jr, and her great grandson Chance Patrick Choate.

Lois graduated from Bolton High School and the Alexandria Business College, both in Alexandria, Louisiana.  She spent 33 years with the Texas Public School Systems, having worked in the North Forest ISD in Houston, the North East ISD in San Antonio, and the Richardson ISD, where she eventually retired from in 1988.  She was a member of the Texas Educational Secretaries Association and the Texas Retired Educational Secretaries Association.  After her retiring to Louisiana, she became involved with a variety of volunteer programs, including the St. Francis Cabrini Hospice Program in Alexandria, Louisiana.  Following the death of her beloved Bill, she relocated to Highlands to be near her son and family.  She then became involved in her community, giving again in serving as a counselor in the AARP Tax Counseling for Elderly Program.   She was also a past president of the Orchard Crossing Estates Homeowners Association.

Lois is survived by her baby sister, Helen Aymond of Monroe, Louisiana.  Her daughter-in-law, Pamela McAlister of Cypress, Texas, granddaughter Stephania Traylor and husband Barry of Cypress, Texas, grandson Wayne McAlister and wife Christina of Highlands, Texas and four great grandchildren: Emilee Traylor, Clay Traylor, Trevor McAlister, and Ty Jarrett McAlister.  She is also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends scattered across the United States.

Mama Mac was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who truly loved and enjoyed life and giving of herself not only to her family but to others as well. 

A visitation for family and friends will be held  at Sterling-White Funeral Home 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd. Highlands, on Thursday September 7, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., followed by services in Sterling-White Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held on Friday September 8 2017 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 4000 Monroe Hwy., Ball, Louisiana at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Sterling-White Funeral Home 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd.
