Mary Lucille Rouse, 82, of Highlands, Texas went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 17, 2019. Lucy was born on May 30, 1936 in Channelview, Texas to Alton Olen Simmons, Sr. and Annabelle Golden Simmons. Lucy retired in 1979 after working many years for the United States Post Office as a post master, mail carrier, and clerk. Lucy was a huge advocate for underprivileged children and at times would open her home to them out of the goodness of her heart. Eating peanut butter and drinking coffee were something she indulged in every day. When she was able Lucy enjoyed going to the Highlands community center to visit with her friends. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and collecting dolls, stamps, and baseball cards. Lucy impacted the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel James Rouse, Sr.; parents, Alton, Sr. and Annabelle Simmons; daughter, Evonne Rouse Foster; sons, Hugh May Rouse, III and Chance “Bubba” Rouse; and brothers, Alton Simmons, Jr. and Tommy Simmons.
Lucy is survived by her children, Bo Rouse and wife Cheri, Loretta Gregersen and husband, Dana, and Janie Brown and husband, Johnny; sister, Timmie Jean Lindsey; brothers, Toby Simmons and Lawson Simmons. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 7 ½ great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Sterling White Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 10:00am also at Sterling White Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sterling White Cemetery.
