Patsy Ann Bowman Reid

February 21, 1945 - May 31, 2023

Nashville, TN

With full hearts, the Reid and Charles families announce the passing of Patsy Ann Bowman Reid. Born February 21, 1945 in Jackson, MS, she was a proud Mississippi native, despite settling in Texas for 32 years and residing in Nashville, TN, for the last 15. She passed early on the morning of May 31, 2023, with her husband of 56 years by her side.

She was the middle daughter of Helen Evilee and Fred Taylor Bowman, sister to Rebecca Ann McIntyre and Freddie Lee Criss. She attended Provine High School, Mississippi College and graduated from the Mississippi University for Women with a degree in Library Science. On her third day of classes, her suite mate, Carol Reid, introduced her to her brother, Harold Webster Reid. They married three years later on September 10, 1966.  In December of 1974, they adopted a baby boy, Matthew Garner Reid, and then gave birth to a daughter, Laura Rimes Reid, in December of 1980.

Patsy was a passionate librarian, working as both a public librarian in libraries in Mississippi and Texas, as well as for Exxon Chemical Plant in Baytown, TX. While at Exxon, she attained multiple grants for educational initiatives for the local public schools, and was awarded for her commitment to volunteerism. She closed out her professional career working alongside Harold as a petroleum landman, traveling together across Texas and West Virginia.

Patsy was an avid gardener, an excellent gift giver and the most loving and devoted mother, wife and sister. But she found her greatest joy in her 2 granddaughters, Clara Helena Charles (5) and Luisa Mattea Charles (3). She was a constant supporter to those in her family, always offering words of encouragement and showing up when needed. She is survived by her husband Harold; daughter Laura (Dr. Carlos A. Charles) of Rhinebeck, NY; grandchildren Clara and Luisa; sister Becky McIntyre (Clyde Richard) of Crystal Springs, MS; several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.  She was preceded in death by her son Matthew, her sister Freddie and her parents Helen and Fred.

A service will be held Saturday, June 10th, at Sterling White Funeral Home & Cemetery in Highlands, Texas. Visitation will begin at noon, with a service following at 1pm and interment at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Baytown Library or Starr Library in Rhinebeck.
