Pedro J. Martinez

Pedro J. Martinez, 80, of Baytown, Texas, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. He was born December 4, 1939, in Harris County to the late Alfonso and Gumesinda Martinez.

Pedro proudly served in the US Army from September of 1961 to June of 1967, two of those years he served in Germany. And on April 1, 1965, he attained the rank of Sergeant.

He retired after 30 years of service on April 1, 1995, from Exxon Company USA as an instrument electrical supervisor. To all of his colleagues, he was a well-respected employee and friend. He was a faithful member of the St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Baytown, Texas.

Pedro had many interests that he enjoyed, some of which were tending to his yard, detailing and cleaning his four-door Chevy Silverado, that even at his most trying times he still asked about, attending to his grandchildren's school functions, watching sports, and most of all spending quality time with his family.

He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many who knew him. Pedro is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Gloria Morales, Benito (Benny) Martinez, and his beloved wife of 51 years, Julia Garza Martinez. He is survived by his loving children Julie Villarreal and husband George, Pete A. Martinez and wife Gabriel and Patricia Martinez; his five grandchildren Sarah, Abigail, Hannah, Joshua, and Jace; his siblings Margaret Silvas, Monica Swire, JoAngel (Joey) Martinez and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Honoring the family as active pallbearers will be JoAngel (Joey) Martinez, Oneal Norris, David Yepez, Ron Garza Jr., Angel Hernandez, and Mike Saphos.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, a Rosary Service will follow at 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 8, 2020, in the Chapel of Sterling~White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd., Highlands, Texas, 77562. A Funeral Service for Mr. Martinez will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020, at 10:00 am in the Chapel of Sterling~White Funeral Home with the Commital Service to follow at Sterling~White Cemetery.
