Theresa Ann Merka

Theresa Ann Bugg Merka left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on November 5, 2021.  She was born on April 9, 1957, and was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Bugg.  She is survived by her six children: Monica Sugarek and husband Brad, Anthony Merka, Elizabeth Merka, Katherine French and husband Jordan, Dominic Merka and wife Kalli, and Kristina Merka.  Theresa is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Karson, Kendall, and Knox Sugarek, Riley Ann and Abigail Harwell, Kenley, Kamryn, and Kori French, and Luke Merka.

All who really knew Theresa know that she never wavered in her devotion to Christ. They also know that it was her love for God which filled Theresa with grace and strength to care for and share in the lives of her children and grandchildren who were truly her everything on earth.

Theresa graduated third in her class from Crosby High School and was voted Most Intellectual.  She attended Stephen F. Austin where she received her BBA in accounting after which she became a registered CPA.  Her work history included teaching for five years at Sacred Heart School and working as an accountant for ExxonMobil for 25 years.  Theresa retired from ExxonMobil in 2017 to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Theresa was always very involved in her church community and played piano and organ across the diocese for 36 years.

Our world has lost a true human-angel, one whose love of and devotion to God and to her children and grandchildren was beyond measure.  We have every reason to believe that even now she is shining a light of hope and prayer upon her loved ones.

Viewing and Rosary will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Sterling White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd., Highlands, TX 77562.  Viewing will be from 5-7 pm.  Rosary will start at 7 pm.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 915 Runneburg Rd., Crosby, TX 77532.  Rosary will begin at 9:30 am.  Funeral will begin at 10:00 am.

Immediately after the funeral, burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery on FM 1942 after which attendees are invited to join the family for a meal at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crosby.
