Thomas James Leibham Sr.

April 16, 1935 ~ August 31, 2020 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Thomas James Leibham, Sr., of Crosby, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2020. He was born on April 16, 1935, to Peter and Emily (Kubin) Leibham. One of 11 children, he graduated from Crosby High School, then proudly served two years in the United States Army. For more than 25 years, he worked as a millwright at Rohm & Haas in Deer Park. He retired at age 60, which left him plenty of time to fully enjoy his golden years.

Thomas liked the simple things in life, such as great food, a hot cup of coffee with friends at McDonald’s, country classics and polka music, watching the birds, and trips to Coushatta. He took time to coach all three of his children in softball/baseball both at Sacred Heart and little league. Family was especially important to Thomas, from his own children, to his many siblings, nieces, and nephews, but especially his grandchildren, who brought so much light to his life. He was not one to complain; instead, he smiled and said, “it ain’t no big deal!” His innate friendliness led him to continue to make friends until the end, pandemic notwithstanding.

He was a devout Catholic, and prayed the rosary often, which he said was, “studying for the final.” Over his many years as a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Thomas was involved with the annual Czech Fest, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years Eleanor, and is survived by his daughter Donna, his son Thomas Jr. and his wife Vikki, his daughter Shelly and her husband Mark, his beloved grandchildren Jessica Oldag and Jared Oldag, his sister Joan Wilson and husband Glynn, sister Mary Catherine Ellerbee and husband Ted, sister Veronica Oehler and husband David, sister Monica Davis and sister Carolyn Butler.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, from 5pm to 8pm, with a rosary starting at 7pm, at Sterling-White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby Lynchburg Road, Highlands, Texas 77562.  A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crosby, Texas. Burial will be at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Eastgate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Sacred Heart St. Vincent de Paul Society or Sacred Heart Catholic School.
